Invitation to Collaborate: Strengthening the Hindu Voices
Subject: Invitation to Collaborate: Strengthening the Hindu Voice through a Unified Memorandum of Understanding
Dear Esteemed Leaders and Members,
On behalf of the Global Hindu Federation, we extend our warmest greetings and reach out to you today with a spirit of profound respect and shared purpose. In an era of unprecedented global connectivity and complex challenges, the need for a cohesive, articulate, and unified Hindu voice has never been more critical. Our diverse and ancient tradition, with its deep philosophical roots and global presence, possesses immense wisdom to offer the world. However, our collective impact is often fragmented, our narratives misunderstood, and our concerns inadequately addressed. It is with this understanding that we invite you to join a foundational effort to consolidate our strengths and speak with a clarity that reflects our shared values.
The Imperative of a Unified Hindu Voice
For too long, the global Hindu community has operated in a decentralized manner. While this reflects our tradition’s inherent pluralism, it has also presented significant challenges in arenas of international advocacy, academic representation, and public discourse. A unified voice is not about erasing our rich diversity of Sampradayas and perspectives; rather, it is about establishing a common ground from which we can all advocate more effectively. It is about building a consensus that empowers us to protect our heritage, promote our values, and ensure our seat at the table in global conversations. By creating powerful, shared narratives, we can proactively define our identity, counter prejudiced scrutiny, and champion the principles of Dharma on a worldwide stage.
A Framework for Principled Collaboration: The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)
To translate this vision into a tangible reality, the Global Hindu Federation has developed a comprehensive Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). This document, attached for your review, is not merely a legal formality; it is a declaration of our shared principles and a roadmap for collective action. It has been meticulously crafted to serve as a foundational agreement for Hindu organizations worldwide, enabling us to align our efforts and amplify our impact. We believe this MOU provides the necessary structure for effective, consensus-driven advocacy and community development.
Rooted in Dharma and the Rights of Indigenous Peoples
he strength of this proposed collaboration lies in its deep-seated ethical and philosophical commitments, which are explicitly articulated in the MOU’s Preamble. This is not a partnership of convenience, but a covenant based on the timeless principles of Sanatana Dharma. The MOU unequivocally:
- Proclaims the Dharmic Way: It affirms our acceptance of the unity of life and the Dharmic path as the way to tranquility for the individual, family, and world.
- Asserts Against Coercive Conversion: It identifies forced conversion as an act of adharma and violence, destructive to community cohesion. Crucially, it frames this issue within the language of international law, asserting that such practices are “diametrically opposed to the identity-specific rights of indigenous civilisations as enshrined in the UN Declaration of Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP Articles 8.2, 11.2, and others).”
- Rejects Supremacist Doctrines: The MOU directly challenges the assumption of religious superiority that underpins conversion, citing UNDRIP’s condemnation of doctrines based on “racial, religious, ethnic, or cultural differences” as racist and legally invalid.
- Protects Dharmic Heritage: It asserts that Hindus, as a continuous indigenous civilisation, will no longer accept being the subject of “hostile and prejudiced ‘academic’ scrutiny” and the exploitation of our intellectual and spiritual resources, a protection aligned with Article 11 of UNDRIP.
- Fosters Internal Unity: The MOU commits signatories to a path of solidarity, resolving to “not unskillfully and publicly criticise other Hindus” and to create platforms for internal dialogue to explore differences respectfully.
By grounding our collaboration in these principles and linking them to internationally recognized instruments like UNDRIP, we position the Hindu community not as a subject of study, but as a proactive guardian of its own indigenous rights and civilizational heritage.
Specific Objectives and Areas for Joint Action
The MOU translates these high-level principles into a clear and actionable Scope of Collaboration. By adopting this framework, our organizations can work in concert on vital initiatives that serve our entire community. The proposed areas of focus are designed to be both comprehensive and flexible, allowing for a wide range of joint projects:
- Cultural Education: Jointly organizing seminars, conferences, workshops, and symposiums to educate both our own communities and the wider world about the depth and diversity of Hindu thought.
- Interfaith Dialogue: Engaging in constructive dialogue with other faith traditions from a position of confidence and mutual respect, promoting harmony and understanding.
- Academic Research: Initiating collaborative research and publication projects that present an authentic and scholarly perspective on Hindu culture, philosophy, and history.
- Community Engagement: Developing academic exchange programs, including guest lectures, student internships, and faculty visits, to nurture the next generation of leaders and scholars.
- Knowledge Sharing: Creating channels for sharing relevant information, data, and best practices in cultural and educational domains to enhance the effectiveness of all our organizations.
These objectives provide a concrete pathway for us to pool our resources, expertise, and networks for the greater good of the global Dharmic community.
Our Call to Action: Join Us in this Historic Endeavor
The time for isolated efforts is behind us. The future of a vibrant, respected, and influential global Hindu community lies in our ability to come together, build consensus, and act in unison. The attached Memorandum of Understanding is our proposed first step on this collective journey.
